Spent barely a day here but enjoyed it thoroughly. My parents lived in madras, so took my mother's advice and went to the snake park in the afternoon and took a whole bunch of pictures.

Then, went over to the beach at sunset and ate seafood watching the sun set on the far side of the ocean. The riot of colors that i witnessed that day shall be hard to forget for a while, sadly i couldn't take a pic of it because i ran out of charge on my camera.Well, U can't hope for everything i guess.

We reached here in the morning after a tiring overnight trip by bus. After finally getting a room and resting a little, my relatives, who met us here decided that we would go on a trip around tirupati and visit some of the temples this temple town is popular for.

The first temple we go to, we are forced to wait an extra hour because a VIP had arrived just before we did and we 'normal people' had no choice but wait till he had his fill so we could catch a fleeting glimpse of the god.
At the second temple, we wait in line for an hour, this time because they were performing some rites to the god inside. After this, after spending the entire day to catch fleeting glimpses of two idols, we finally get to bed.

The next day, we wake up early in the morning at 3:30 because my relatives had planned to climb the stairs carved into the hillside to get to the main temple at tirumala, so, with two kids in tow, we climb up the stairs for 6 hours barefoot and finally get to the temple, here, we are sent into a waiting room and told to wait for our turn.
After a while, a group of people enter a small cube present inside the room. this cube is enter-able from outside and has small holes through which only the hands can pass, through this, small platefuls of rice are passed and this, after we walk for 6hrs and have been waiting for another 2. And in their entirely justifiable hunger, all the people in the waiting room, which practically didn't even have standing space rushed towards the cage and started jumping at the food. After this exhibition of hunger , a salesperson sits in that counter to sell popcorn!
Here, i watch in awe, as everyone i see has climbed for at-least 4 hours and have been waiting for another 4 and have no idea how long it will further take, all for a less than 20 second view of an idol which is placed a full 20 feet away! and wonder at the dedication and willpower these people possess.

Its during this time while i wait in an enclosed room, i see and begin to hate this particular idea of religion which turns people into maniacs capable of wasting days of hard work  time and effort, which if funneled into anything else would yield incredible results, all in the hope that someday sometime in the future their wish may come true, not realizing that if they spent even half the effort they did, their wish would have come true.

The silver lining? The walk up the hill is riddled with places to snap pictures, so here are a few.
